چکیده
Abstract Objective To investigate the correlation between serum level of homocysteine (Hcy) and ulcerative colitis (UC) evaluate its diagnostic performance by pooling open published data. Methods The case–control or cohort studies relevant to Hcy UC, in Pubmed, Medline, EMBASE, China Wanfang CNKI databases, were systematically screened using text word “homocysteine,” “hcy,” “UC,” “inflammatory bowel disease.” standard mean difference (SMD) was pooled through random effect model. sensitivity, specificity area under receiver operating characteristic (AUC) curve for UC also calculated. Results Eighteen identified electronic searching related databases. results indicated that levels statical different healthy controls with SMD = 0.95 (95% CI: 0.87–1.04). 14.30 ± 3.08 (range: 10.10–21.73) 10.09 1.57 6.80–12.47) μmol/L controls, respectively, included 18 studies. Using as biomarker identification, AUC 94.44% 72.71–99.86%), 72.22% (46.52–90.31%) 0.88 0.77–0.99, P < 0.05), respectively. Significant publication bias present work. Conclusion Based on publications, elevated cases can be applied serological marker diagnosis. However, due significant bias, should further validated well-designed prospective

The Serum S100B Level as a Biomarker of Enteroglial Activation in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis
Objective. Recent studies have demonstrated that enteric glial cells (EGC) participate in the homeostasis of the gastrointestinal tract. This study investigated whether enteroglial markers, including S100B protein and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), can serve as noninvasive indicators of EGC activation and disease activity in UC patients. Methods. This clinical prospective study include...
متن کاملInterleukin-17 Serum Levels and TLR4 Polymorphisms in Ulcerative Colitis
Background: Inflammatory bowel disease, an autoimmune disease, has two clinical manifestations including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (UC). IL-17 has been the target of intensive research in autoimmune diseases. The influence of Toll like receptor 4 (TLR-4) gene polymorphisms on IL-17 production has also been revealed in UC patients and tissue inflammation in mice. Objectives: To inve...
متن کاملp53 Expression as a Diagnostic Biomarker in Ulcerative Colitis-Associated Cancer
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is defined as an idiopathic inflammatory disorder primarily involving the mucosa and submucosa of the colon. UC-associated colon cancers (also known as colitic cancers) develop through the inflammation-dysplasia sequence, which is a major problem affecting the prognosis of patients with UC. It is therefore very important to detect malignancy from UC at an early stage. As...
متن کاملIL23 as a novel serum based biomarker in ulcerative colitis- an editorial
1 IL23 is a heterodimeric member of the IL12 cytokine family composed of two subunits, IL12p40 and IL23p19. It is produced by antigen presenting cells and has been shown to promote the production and survival of a distinct lineage of T-cells called TH17 cells (1). Studies have revealed that naive T cells when stimulated by TGFβ and IL-6 are differentiate into TH17 cells. However, this is inhibi...
متن کاملSerum Interleukin-23 Levels in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis
Background: Patients with ulcerative colitis are at increased risk of inflammation. Interleukin 23 (IL-23) is a newly identified cytokine with increased expression in inflamed biopsies of colon mucosa in patients with Crohn's disease; however, there is inconsistent evidence on its role in ulcerative colitis. Objective: We aimed to compare serum IL-23 level in patients with ulcerative colitis an...
